2020 Taiwan Ceramics Residency Program 

1.         About

Situated in the southwest of the Taipei Basin, Yingge is town well known in Taiwan for its rich ceramic heritage and culture. The Yingge Ceramics Museum (YCM) was opened in 2000 to preserve the town’s cultural legacy while instilling new energy into the area. The establishment of the residency program is to encourage ceramic artists, both local and global, to come and experience the life in a pottery town through a short-term residency.

 

2.         Program

The 2020 Taiwan Residency Program invites artist not only to advance their practice in Yingge, but also to propose a collaboration project that can contribute to the local community (projects such as creating collaborative artworks, educational activities, outdoor installations etc.), which can create new meanings within the region. We also accept artists to team up and apply (max. 2 artists). Accepted artists not only can spend up to 3 months working in the museum’s studio, the YCM also provides a full stipend to encourage artist to engage in the international field of ceramics.

 

3.         Application

Deadline

Application is opened until July 14, 2019.

 

Qualifications

The residency program is open to both foreign and domestic artists. Interested applicants must have at least two years of experience in ceramic practice.

Residency period

The residency program can support an artist to stay up to three months. Four time slots are provided for artists to choose from (January to March, April to June, July to September, and October to December)Each period can only accommodate up to 3 people. If too many apply for the same period, the priority will be given to the first applicant who confirms their period of stay via email. 3333

 

Selection process

A selection committee composed of relevant experts, scholars, and museum representatives will review all applicants’ file and proposal. 9 artists will be selected from all the applications (this included at least Taiwaneseartists, however if applicants do not meet qualification standards, vacancies shall remain). A selection outcomewill be emailed to all applicants on Sept. 23rd 2019. The final selection list will be posted on the museum’s official website (see https://www.ceramics.ntpc.gov.tw).

 

4.         Selection Criteria

(1)      Sculptural artworks.

(2)      Quality of artworks.

(3)      The creativity, practicality and impact of the collaborative project proposal.

 

5.         Benefits and Responsibilities

The museum offers each artist (team):

(1)   Round-trip travel subsidies.

(2)   NTD 600 per day (NTD 564 after tax) as daily stipend up to 90 days.

(3)   Basic studio materials needed during the residency (max. NTD 30,000).

(4)   A shared apartment and a semi-open studio space.

Artists’ responsibilities include:

(1)   Showing up in the studio at least 17 days per month during the residency period.

(2)   Carrying out the collaboration project.

(3)   Participating in various events held by the museum (such as talks, workshops, educational activities, etc.).

(4)   Donating at most one piece (set) of his/her artwork selected by the museum for educational purposes. All rights of the artwork will be reserved by the museum.

 

ATTENTION:

(1) Benefits and responsibilities are provided only for one artist/team. If you’re a team of two, the benefits and responsibilities will be shared by two artists.

(2) Foreign artist’s travel subsidies can apply up to the equivalent of international airfare in economy class; domestic artists can apply up to the equivalent of high speed rail fare in economy class.
